{ready to ship}

July 19th, 2010

Just wanted to pop in with a few details on the upcoming Fall ‘10 line. The line is really close to complete and I am so excited about what’s in store for this season. The line is filled with all the popular styles as well as some new ones that you’re going to love. The line includes lots of fun colors, new fabrics and materials, and some super exciting collaborations with some of my favorite etsy sellers. One of the things I am most excited about; most of Fall 2010 is READY TO SHIP!!! While stock lasts, all sizes 2-6 are ready to ship which equals no more wait and a much quicker ship time. I tend to be a last minute shopper and ready to ship items have saved my rear a few times. We’ll still be doing custom, toddler, and big girl sizing but the production time will also be much faster!

Oh, you remember all that talk about a boy’s line? We’ll it’s coming too and it’s bigger than I had planned (and I promise it’s not all baby stuff). No pictures to share yet but they are coming. I’ll start to share next week and if all goes as planned the line will launch Monday Aug. 2nd. If you want the up-to-date info join the G & G Fan page and be on the lookout for some special fan offers.

There are a few more exciting details that we’re anxious to share so stay tuned!

Lastly, just because a post with no pictures is uber boring and baby HC is uber cute…..

{summer catch up!}

July 11th, 2010

Busy, busy, busy. There, now you’re caught up! Ha! It has been a busy summer and for that I am very thankful. Last summer dragged on FOREVER (coulda had something to do with the Florida heat  + third trimester of pregnancy) and I was worried that this summer would do the same. We’ve stayed busy by taking a few trips, seeing family and friends, and keeping up with what the girls learned in pre-K to keep them ready for kindergarten. It’s been a lot of fun! We just got back from our visit to Hilton Head for the 4th. We moved away from HH when the girls were a little over 3 so it was great fun to take them back around the island and see them remember certain things. We also took a little 40min. trip over to Savannah and hopped on the Old Savannah Trolley. I love Savannah but never took the time to get a formal tour until this trip. It was awesome. Here are a few pics from the trip.

Don’t be fooled, there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes too! We’ve made a bunch of upcycled dresses which has been a great creative outlet for the summer. I had hoped to have more for the etsy shop but most everything was claimed before I had a chance to list them. The upcycles are HOT! I did manage to sneak a few special dresses for the girls.

This child loves having her picture taking. This dress is all her, she even screen printed the graphic herself,  and I’m sure that hat is no longer mine. We made a few extra prints too that may pop up in the shop. We’ve got to focus on Fall 2010 which is already underway so we’ll see!

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer and having a blast. We’ll check back in with a few announcements this coming week!

Happy Summer!

{where’s the love}

June 26th, 2010

This little cutie is the newest addition on the G&G payroll. We held an open casting call last week and found the cutest baby on the planet.

Okay, fine, I did happen to give birth to him but I am not the least bit biased. Okay, fine, I am biased and there was no “open call” but I do plan to pay him with lots of hugs and kisses. Moving on, having a boy is a load of fun (so is having one baby at a time). I have to be honest and say that I really don’t notice much of a difference between having a boy vs. a girl. Most of the differences I’ve noticed have more to do with having a singleton vs. twins. He may be more active and get into more things but I don’t notice as much because it’s just him. However, what I do know is that shopping for boys clothes is hard and frustrating and not fun. I mean, seriously, the whole reason I even had kids in the first place was so I could shop for them.

In my frustration,  poor baby HC has now become my latest victim model. I’ve already made several adorable sun bubbles for him that I love and D Fizzle hates. I like to dress my babies as babies and I make no apologies for it (so deal, D Fizzle). D Fizzle wants him to look like a boy and I get that so with his help we came up with this…

Upcylced Boy Baggies (Baby Baggies shown here).

Baby HC is wearing size 24m here with a custom fit stretch waistline. He’s a giant at 9 months. These pants are super cute, all boy, and completely upcylced. They are comfy and breathable (and Dad approved). For the bigger boys they will have a drawstring waist and fall just below the knee. Cool.

Look for them in the shop very soon or contact us now through the shop to reserve a limited pair!

{summer series}

June 14th, 2010

The summer has officially started at g&g! We’ve taken the last couple weeks to tie up loose ends from the Spring ‘10 line and enjoy a little family time along with some weekend trips. We’ve already celebrated the girls’ 5th birthday, enjoyed weekends in Orlando and Miami, and visited with cousins, Aunts, & Uncles from both sides of the family. Needless to say, there are lots of stories and pictures to share over the next few weeks. Currently, the focus has shifted to finishing up the summer RTS line which will debut within a week or so. There are lots of new styles and even a new item that has been a long time in the making!

We’re also gearing up for a fun summer series here on the blog! Introducing…

Starting next monday, J Sizzle Summer School is in session! Check back for a fun summer series full of activities and projects to help get your little ones through the summer.

Happy Summer!

Birthday Girls

May 22nd, 2010

It’s been a busy few weeks and there has been a lot going on behind the scenes! In the coming weeks we have a couple of big announcements that I am super excited about. Stay tuned! In the mean time, we’re taking a couple days to celebrate the girls 5th birthday at Disney. We skipped the usually party this year and will be spending the weekend at the happiest place on earth. We’re so excited and I’m very proud of my girls who haven’t once complained about not having a party. I’ll share lots of pictures when we return. Now, can someone tell me how my sweet, little, baby girls turned into funny, smart, little 5 year olds?

Teacher Treats

May 4th, 2010

Just in time for Teacher Appreciation Day, a quick little gift idea to say thank you to all the wonderful teachers in our children’s lives.This year the girls started preschool at a new school making it the third preschool they have attended since they were 2. I started the year very concerned about how they would handle being in another new environment and if the change would affect their readiness for Kindergarten. It wasn’t long before I realized they were in extremely capable hands and my concerns were set to rest. I’ve been truly amazed at the information they retain, the skills they are gaining, and their desire to learn. They love school and I have no doubt that it is a direct reflection of their teachers wonderful ability to create a environment that has facilitated their success. In addition to the classroom gift I wanted to send a little something to say thanks, we reallly appreciate you!

If you need a quick gift for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3rd-7th) grab an inexpensive jar and fill it with some colorful treats. You can find the free printable labels here.  I printed the labels on sticker paper and cut out using a 3″ circle punch. The labels happened to fit perfectly on the jars I had and I added a sweet little bow at the request of the girls. Just a few minutes and you’ve got a sweet little treat!

Baby HC’s Highchair Revamp

May 1st, 2010

I love all things vintage but I’ve never been antique shopping in the traditional sense, go figure. Most of my “finds” have come from estate sales, Goodwill or Salvation Army, hand-me-downs, and occasionally raiding an unfortunate relatives house. Over the years a few items that have become a true weaknesses and I’ve just given up trying to resist. First up, milk glass (or opal glass), L-O-V-E it. Cake stands, butter dishes, candle sticks, sugar bowls, doesn’t matter, they all make me happy and they all make me think of my Grandma. Next up, vintage Spode (the real stuff). I blame my mom for this one who bought me my first piece of real Spode for Christmas when I was 14. I never had a chance after that and I no longer hold myself accountable for the 36 full place settings that I own, give or take. Then, there is baby equipment. Kinda strange if you think of recalls, modern convenience and all the other junk that baby items have these days but I love it all still. Having twins made it hard to go the vintage route but luckily baby HC has fulfilled my need to buy old baby junk.

I got it in my head that he NEEDED an old vintage highchair. He NEEDED it and it NEEDED to be spectacular. This was the first time that I went searching for an item rather than happening upon it and I think I may be on to something here. I found this old Jenny Ling highchair on Craiglist. I scored it for less than $40 and it was in good, solid condition. All I thought it needed was a light sanding and a coat of spray paint. Cheap, easy, simple, words to live by.

Here is the before (courtesy of my iPhone)…

I managed to snag it right before it was time for HC’s first solid food which also happened to be one of my busiest weeks with G&G. So I enlisted D Fizzle to help with a little light sanding and some spray paint. This is what I got….

A highchair revamp, ala Dexter Morgan. So not what I was thinking.  D Fizzle got out the electric sander, sanded it all down, put on a nice coat of gray primer,

the perfect apple red paint, and a gloss coat just to make me smile (He’s good like that, I think I may keep him around). The next thing you know I’ve got this.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I L-O-V-E HC’s highchair. A little sanding, some spray paint, optional kill room, and wah-laa… the most spectacular highchair that’s even better than I dreamed. Gosh, I L-O-V-E both of my boys.

Love Your Earth, Keep it Green Upcycled Giveaway

April 22nd, 2010

Happy Earth Day everyone! We’ve spent the better part of today enjoying the outdoors while trying to integrate new eco friendly ideas into our daily lives. I’ve tried to keep my iron off when not in use and remember to turn off my sewing machines while I’m cutting and doing other things today (still playing catch-up around here but we’ll be ahead on orders after the weekend). It’s the little things that add up and make a difference.

To help raise awareness, we’ve teamed up with Kristie Serra Photography and have yet another Eco-friendly Upcycled dress to giveaway (I told you I was hooked)! Kristie has a special “Do Your Part” Earth Day series which features numerous helpful and earth loving tips from moms all over the country. Visit her blog and enter for a chance to win the “Love Your Earth, Keep it Green” Upcycled dress featured in the pictures below.

For our part, we got up bright and early and took a little walk to enjoy nature and plan our day. Did you know that each person throws away approximately four pounds of garbage every day?

Then we decided to go to the local nursery to pick out a plant and then headed home to do a little planting. Did you know that 1/3 of all energy is used by people at home? Not cool, she’s gonna get you.

We spent the rest of the afternoon outside playing in the dirt, eating gummy worms and enjoying all the gifts mother nature has to offer. Did you know that 5 million tons of oil produced each year ends up in the ocean? Scary, just like worms.

We hope everyone was able to enjoy the day and integrate a few changes that will help make the Earth a better, cleaner, and happier place for all of us. Now run on over to KSP and enter for a chance to win the “Love Your Earth, Keep it Green” Dress made with eco friendly fabrics!

the real winner

April 19th, 2010

I’ll never forget the exact moment I found out I was going to have a son. Simply put, I was terrified. I’d spent the previous few months listening to stories about how boys are so much more active, physical, and rambunctious and just couldn’t image such a scenario. If you’ve ever meet my girls you’d know they can hold their own and keep up with all the boys on any day of the week. They can go from 0 to 100 in a heartbeat. I don’t know where they get it.

I sat them down this afternoon hoping they’d help me pick a winner for the upcycled Cheerios dress giveaway and I quickly realized  that they were in the mood for something a little different. It all started out innocently enough…

and then I realized I forgot to turn off the comments for the giveaway post. To be fair, I went back and turned them off and printed off the last few comments that were entered this afternoon. I was gone for 60 seconds and I came back to UFC; The Twin wars.

They assured me that it was all fair because they each got to be the real winner and jump on the other. Ummm, okay, I guess.

Anyway, I got them refocused and we chose a winner.

and without further ado,

Congrats to Stephanie Greenwell who entered at the last minute. Stephanie said ” what a cute dress! i love it! and it looks like you have quite the model!”. Oh Stephanie, you have no idea (and thank you)!!

Thanks to everyone for all the entries and kind comments! We’ll do more giveaways in the future (and by future we may mean this week) so there will be another chance to win soon!
